Hello all!
Those of you that know me may be aware that my mum suffers from Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (M.E.) which is also known as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (C.F.S.)
M.E. is a debilitating illness that varies in severity. M.E. sufferers experience many different symptoms including severe muscle pain and weakness and disabling levels of physical and mental fatigue. Impaired cognitive functions, anxiety, temperature disregulation and heart palpitations are also common symptoms.
M.E. is a complex and poorly understood illness as there are so many symptoms and unfortunately some people still do not recognise it as a real illness. In reality an estimated 250,000 people are suffering with M.E. /C.F.S in the UK.
There is no specific diagnostic test for M.E./C.F.S and patients can display symptoms for many months or even years before a diagnosis is confirmed. The complexity of the illness also means that prognosis can be equally difficult and with no known cure, treatments and medication can only help alleviate symptoms and do not work for all sufferers.
Funding is desperately needed for research into developing a diagnostic test and finding suitable treatments to help M.E. sufferers so please dig deep and sponsor me to do a skydive in New Zealand! I have put the event date as the 10th October 2007(mum's birthday!) but I cannot actually guarantee the date as I will be backpacking and will not know where I will be until I am there! I can however guarantee that the skydive will take place sometime between 22nd September-14th October!
Remember every little helps
Thank you
