2008 challenge: “The Wall” and Family Swimathon
It was a Herculean effort by anyone’s standards, but we made it! 84 miles from coast to coast in 2 days and 84 km swam in 3 hours!!! There are many tales to be told, pictures which tell a thousand tales (some of which we’ll share with you on Flickr) and tales of bravery and bloody-mindedness. Our heartfelt thanks go to all the walkers, swimmers and all of you who have been so generous with your donations. The Muscular Dystrophy Campaign also extends congratulations and thanks to you all.
Lots of love from The Stockies xxx
Following Lawrie's diagnosis of Becker Muscular Dystrophy in 2006, we have been keen to give back the charity that has provided support and help to Lawrie and our family. Last year’s efforts resulted in a final contribution of over £17,000, for which the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign expressed their deepest appreciation.
Last May, thanks to the sterling efforts of walkers (conquering the fifteen peak challenge in Snowdonia), and the swimathon, we exceeded all our targets. This year we have raised the bar both in terms of the physical challenge and the financial target.
On the 3rd of May, Lawrie's mum and dad and a group of intrepid friends intend to walk the length of Hadrian’s Wall (84 miles) in two days. It will involve over 30 hrs of walking and will be incredibly demanding. On the 17th May, Lawrie and many of his friends and their families will endeavour to swim 54k (2000) lengths in 3 hours.
Our objective is to raise £20,000. This will help fund vital research into a cure for this sometimes life-limiting condition.
On behalf of our family and the Muscular Dystrophy campaign, your support would be much appreciated. Thank you!
