I'm running the Pies & Peas (5 Miles) on Wednesday 5th August 2009!
I took up running for lent this year & have been trying to get good enough to run the 'Race for Life' (5k / 3 mi) - but unfortunately haven't been able to find one near me which is at a convenient time. I haven't done any serious exercise since PE lessons at School 5 years ago so have found the training quite tough but I've now signed up to run the Pies & Peas which seems to be getting sooner every day!
The Pies& Peas is 5 miles / 8 km on multi-terrain and is a 1 lap course. It's much tougher than the Race for Life & I can't quite get me head around the fact that it's over 5 times the distance of our most gruelling race at Sports Day back at School! My Dad's done the Pies & Peas for a few years and my Mum joined him last year so I've got to train hard to keep up with them! The race is called the Pies & Peas because that's the food that everyone eats after wards at the finishing line; The Lion Pub, in Moulton in Cheshire.
So, on Wednesday 5th August 2009 I'm going to be running the Pies & Peas for DENS - a Homeless Charity in Dacorum that my Mum works for and whom I know do lots of good things to help homeless people get back on their feet and encourage people to help those around them who are less fortunate.
