Helen was in her forties with a young daughter when she was diagnosed with breast cancer, the following months were difficult but she seemed to respond to treatment and it looked like she was on the road to recovery. Unfortunately in Autumn 2007 tests showed that she had developed secondary tumours in her brain, liver and lungs. This time there was nothing the doctors could do, and after spending a lovley Christmas with family Helen was taken into hospital. After her stay in Arrowe Park Hospital Helen was transfered to St John's Hospice in Wirral. While in St John's Helen recieved a wonderful level of care from sensitive and friendly staff and volunteers. Family and friends were made to feel welcome and will always appreciate the kindness shown by everyone at the hospice.
Helen passed away on the 30th January 2008 surrounded by family and friends.
We would now like to do something to support St John's Hospice and allow them to continue caring for other patients and families the way they did for Helen and those close to her.
On the 18th May 2008 five of Helen's s family took part in the Wirral Costal Walk to raise much needed funds for St John's Hospice in memory of Helen. The walk went well with all five of us completing the 15 mile course. Thank you to everyone who sponsored us.
This year Helen's sister and niece will be completing the costal walk again to raise further funds for St John's hospice. We will be walking on Sunday 17th May 2009, any sponsorship would be greatly appreciated.
We are planning to continue to raise money for St John's Hospice.
