Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In February 2012 I aim to Climb Mount Kilimanjaro. The climb will be quite a physical challenge and the altitude sickness will no doubt make it event more difficult. Personally the most difficult thing will be spending almost two weeks away from my family. For me this is one of the reasons why I am taking on this challenge. A couple of months ago I was touched and moved by the case of Hammad. Being a father and a husband it made me realise just how fragile and vulnerable we are.

Hammad lives in remote hilly areas of Balakot Pakistan, where an earthquake in 2005 changed his life for worst. Hammad was just one years old, when an earthquake struck. Hammad, his father Maroof 37, and his sister Shazia 3 were sleeping at home at the time as tonnes of debris fell on them.

There was no chance of survival, Hammads father Maroof, and his sister Shazia’s dead bodies were recovered by their neighbours later that evening, while Hammad's body was not found, everyone assuming that he too had died.

On the second day, when Hammad's mother Ashrafa 33 searched the rubble for food, she heard faints and cries, which inspired them to dig. Hammad was found alive, but badly entangled in timber, soil and concrete.

In a frantic operation to rescue him and pull him free his back was broken, leaving him unable to walk. 6 years later Hammad is still unable to walk and is cared for by his widowed mother, his two brothers Aslam 11, and Akram 12, and sister Sabeeha 6.

I want to raise £7000 to help Hammad rebuild his life, by sponsoring his brothers and sister, building a home for his family, getting a wheelchair for him and getting an examination to assess his condition. Please donate generously.
