My story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

Well, I did it. I successfully completed the 2009 Flora London Marathon. My first marathon for 25 years. It was a hot day - too hot for marathon running. My best time is 3.48 but I had to contend with just finishing thanks to the heat and injuries picked up in training and during the race. Still a very enjoyable and emotional day. Words can't describe the kindness and goodwill of the thousands of spectators around the route. They were fantastic. I lost count of the number of children handing me jelly babies and doing 'high fives' as I ran past. I don't think I've ever heard so many people shouting my name.  Their encouragement certainly helped.    Whether I ever want to subject myself to such pain again will have to wait until after I've recovered. I said never again before.

Thanks also to all of you who sponsored me so far.  Your kind donations are very much appreciated.

I chose to raise funds for AbilityNet because of the work they do with disabled people.  £10 allows a disabled person access to online help - £15 will pay for in depth advice to be given from our 0800 freephone helpline. - £25 allows us to give technical support to one of our clients. - £50 will enable a carer or guardian to attend one of our assistive technology courses so they can support greater independence. - £100 pays for a senior consultant to link up to a disabled person's computer and work with them to provide the adjustments they need for free. - £750 covers the cost of providing a one- to- one assessment, installing the equipment, giving training and ongoing support for the lifetime of the equipment. - £1500 allows us to present an intensive "hands-on" training course to people who are providing assistance to disabled individuals - £3500 allows us to provide access to our SOS "Support One Stop" service for one person. They will be given a comprehensive, progressive assessment to identify the most suitable solution for their needs. They will then immediately receive appropriate hardware and software on loan while their permanent solution is acquired. They are then given their permanent solution as well as training and ongoing support. Most of us taking using a computer for granted. Your donation will help more people use their computer to connect to the outside world.

It's not too late to donate.
