Why your donation matters

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance flies to the rescue of sick and injured people across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance receives no government funding. The only help the charity receives is through secondment of paramedics from the NHS. We must raise over £110,000 a month to maintain this service and this is only possible through generous public support.

Since becoming operational in July 2007 we have flown thousands of missions - many of these were life saving.

Case study: donations in action

Roger Bell was rescued by HIOWAA and features on our DVD: While cantering in the New Forest my horse, Muckle Dan put both front feet in a hole. I was thrown over his head & he landed on top of me. The emergency services & HIOWAA were called and I was flown to ICU at Southampton General. I had a scan which showed that a flap had been torn in my aorta. As I hit the ground I crushed five vertebrae and as Dan landed on me he broke most of the ribs on my right side, dislocated my shoulders and tore the rotator cuff. Then he rolled off me, crushing my left chest cavity, depressing my right cheek which caused the soft palate in my mouth to detach, taking out the 3 remaining teeth that other horses hadn’t already removed in earlier falls! So completely did Dan crush me that he broke my false teeth and specs! My injuries were so severe that I had been given 80% chance of dying in the first 24 hours. The Air Ambulance got me to Intensive Care within the hour, which undoubtedly saved my life.
