About the charity : Royal Academy of Dramatic Art Royal Academy of Dramatic Art
The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art is a founding affiliate of the Conservatoire for Dance and Drama. It was established in 1904 and has a world wide reputation for the quality of its training. RADA has a broad selection policy. It runs an ongoing fundraising appeal to Trusts, Foundations and philanthropic individuals in order to provide awards for those students who need additional financial assistance in order to complete the training on the full time courses. The contact time at RADA is high. Students work in excess of 36 hours per week which precludes their undertaking regular part time employment to supplement their income during term time. Students who are relocating to London for the first time are in a particularly vulnerable financial position as the full student loan does not cover the real costs of living in London. So too are students with a first degree who are ineligible for loans to pay the mandatory student fee or their term time living costs. All donations made to the Student Scholarship/Bursary funds at RADA are allocated to students in genuine financial need. By making a donation to RADA you are supporting the stars of tomorrow, today!

Hello again!

I've been so busy this third year at RADA that I've only got round to updating my page now.  Sorry!  I'm extremely grateful to everyone who helped me raise over £5,000 last year.  Although the end is in sight, I'm shorter for cash than ever so if you feel able to help me this year, please do.

Any amount of money, no matter how small you feel it is, will help me during my time at drama school. Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. More importantly it provides the most efficient way to sponsor me: I will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you, so that, for example, a donation of £100 magically becomes £128 in my finance account with the school.  The money comes direct to me in cash from them; there's no middle man; the school takes nothing for itself.

The London Old Bradfordians Club have once again helped me by generously awarding me a second Drummond Scholarship, for which I'm extremely grateful.  Likewise The Wall Trust and Marina Kleinwort Foundation have continued their financial support which humbles me greatly.  Many thanks to these three organisations.  Thanks to the financial stability provided by them and those of you who donate to this page I've been able to retain the same flat for a second year which has lent a much-needed security to unpredictable Rada life.

I've once again drawn the maximum student loan possible and am continuing to to apply for money from companies and arts-oriented charities that consider individual applications in an attempt to secure the necessary finances.  Unfortunately these schemes are scarce and hugely oversubscribed in this age of professional fund-raisers.  Rest assured I'm not idling for hand-outs.

Having lived in London since graduating from Trinity College Dublin in 2004, I'm intimately acquainted with how much life here costs.  The figures haven't changed much.

RENT: £100/ week; £400/ month; £4,000 per school year. UTILITY BILLS: £40/ week; £160/ month; £1,440 per school year. BIKE MAINTENANCE: £20/ month; £200 per school year. RADA FEES: £392 per term for three terms; £1, 175 per school year. FOOD AND HOME SUPPLIES: £70/ week; £280/month; £2,800 per school year.

Many thanks for all your help!
