Thanks for looking at my crazy challenges page!
In April I am taking part in the 25th Marathon des Sables. In a nutshell, it is a 155 mile race across the Moroccan Sahara Desert. The distance is divided into six stages over six days, five are approximately marathon distance and the other one a double marathon. Competitors have to carry all their own gear, so that means lugging around all the food for the week, a sleeping bag, an anti-venom pump (really), and all the other kit required (hairdryer, make-up...). Temperatures will be in the 40s and most of the time will be spent running over sand dunes. Add to this the fact that there is no fixed route and runners have to plot their own course between checkpoints and it's going to be a cheeky little number!
July is my next challenge and is the Switzerland Ironman. This is basically a long triathlon comprising a 2.4 mile swim in Lake Zurich, the 112 miles on a bike around the not-entirely-flat surrounding area, then a marathon to finish off (why not...?)!
I have already covered the cost of entering both of these events myself and the entry money for the MDS also goes towards local projects in Africa, building schools and healthcare facilities for local communities. I'm competing in both events for Help for Heroes, which is obviously close to many of our hearts and am keen to raise as much as possible as these events hopefully won't be in my schedule very often...
Thank you so much for helping me raise money for H4H.
Holly.
