Many of you will already know that two years ago my brother lost his life-long fight with depression. The charity Mind states that one in four people will experience mental health problems at some point in their lives. Even with this high number,  mental well- being is still a fairly taboo subject and many people find it hard to admit to being depressed and even harder to find the right help.

My brother Brendan was a good- looking, bright, funny, articulate man who acheived many things in his life that others could only aspire to. Like the many others thousands who suffer from this illness he could only see a life of isolation and desperation.  Having suffered with my own depression I can understand the feelings of  hopelessness, sadness and shame that leads 5000 people in the UK each year to feel they can no longer bear to be alive. I have been lucky enough to receive excellent treatment and I know the same is possible for all those who bear the weight of depression.

So I am off to Everest! In April I am trekking to Everest Base Camp. The money I raise  be split between the charity Mind and the Special Needs school I work in. It will be used specifically to help children and young adults experiencing depression. Mind says that everyone will be touched by mental illness at some point in their life, whether through their own experience or through some one they know.

Please help me to make a change to the way depression is talked about and dealt with by donating today and sending this page to others that may do the same.

Thank you

Marie x
