THE PC MARTIN BARBER TON ON THE TOWPATH MEMORIAL
Firstly thanks for coming!
Result-
Chief Superintendant Terry Powel (retired), came to the start of the run and presented Elke, Martin's wife with a book containing pictures and story's from Martin's times in the police.
Donald and Mark then set off and ran the Ton in 23 hours assisted by support crew cyclists, Davy Riddell, Jon Fleetwood and Jamie Gilmour/Bailie the dug in the van. Pete Jones and Cheryl Blanch also cycled out to force boundry and Kenny Eccles cycled the return leg from the force boundry to the finish keeping the runners company.
Cyclists- Allan and Ian Cambell, Ian Hutchison, Ross Birnie, Gary Wood and Liz Rainey-Brown cycled the Ton in 9hrs 30 mins. With Phil Howard thier support crew. The cyclists were joined by Colin MacDonald and Linzi Anderson for the last 20 miles or so.
The runners and cyclists came in to a memorable and emotional finish together and in the memory of Martin who is missed by us all.
On 22 Apr 09 Pc Martin Barber a colleague from Bonnyrigg police station sadly and unexpectantly passed away after suffering a heart attack when he was on holiday, he was just 34! Elke, Martin's wife has shown amazing strength through this difficult time bringing up their two great kids, 4 year old Alex and 1 year old Olivia.
On 27th - 28th Mar 10, Pc Donald Kettrick and support driver, Mark Rankin (Compo) are going to attempt to run, non stop, 100 miles along the Union and Forth Canals (between Wester Hailes, Edinburgh and Maryhill, Glasgow and back again). It was Martin's intention to do this one with us, but on his bike with a gel saddle!
Pc Ian Hutchison (Hutch), Martin's teammate at Bonnyrigg has taken up the challenge and will be joining us on Martin's bike along with Alan Campbell, Liz Rainy-Brown, Ian Campbell, Phil Howard, Ross Birnie, Linzi Anderson are going to cycle 120 miles on the canal. Jon Fleetwood and David Riddell, Sparky and others are also to keep us company by cycling on the Ton as support for the runners with a support van being manned by Gregos Harris and Jamie Gilmour.
Its only fitting that the fundraising be done in the memory of Martin for The Mark Wright Project.
