Why your donation matters

Henshaws is a specialist charity providing expert support, advice & training to anyone affected by sight loss. We work throughout the North of England with centres & communities in Manchester, Liverpool, Newcastle, Yorkshire and Knaresborough. We help hundreds of visually impaired children & babies, their families, friends & colleagues, young & older people by providing reassurance, companionship, & practical support. Without your help, we could not provide these services, leaving people suffering from sight loss often feeling lost, isolated and confused.

We believe that losing your sight shouldn't mean that you have less right to an independent, happy and fulfilling life and future. Every penny you donate helps us to continue our commitment to helping those suffering from sight loss.

"I’m Oscar’s mum, Kait. Oscar is my third son but bringing up a child who has no vision is so different that I had to relearn everything I thought I knew about being a parent. I first came to Henshaws in 2008; I was scared, anxious and didn’t know where to turn. My baby boy was six weeks old and had been diagnosed with a condition which had left him completely blind. As a mother the thought that your child will never see your face or the world around him is indescribable. Anthony (Oscar’s Dad) and I really struggled to come to terms with what Oscar’s future would hold and we were torn apart with worry for him.

Through support from staff at Henshaws, we learnt that Oscar could have a happy and fulfilling future and get as much out of life as his siblings. After a referral from Manchester Royal Eye Hospital we started to attend the Parent & Toddler group at Henshaws where we met other parents who had children with similar conditions. Before this we felt completely isolated."
