Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Please could I ask you to consider supporting my charity solo cycle ride (starting 20th June 2010) from Lands End to John O'Groats (LEJOG) in aid of Cancer Research UK.
STOP PRESS!! : I arrived at JOG on Saturday 3rd July at around 1:30PM - completing the challenge as planned, having clocked 1,059 miles :-)
I lost my father to Cancer when I was 17 and as my wife's family has been ravaged by the disease she is now very active in the local Friends of Cancer Research organisation. Perhaps what is most worrying is the number of our friends that have been afflicted, who are relatively young and have no obvious lifestyle issues that would put them at increased risk. Fortunately, research is leading to improved medicines and procedures, which means that chances of recovery are better than ever, although the treatment is still a horrendous ordeal for patients and their families.
I live in the great town of Hungerford in Berkshire, which has a number of organisations such as Round Table, Friends of Cancer Research, 41-Club, Rotary, Chain etc. full of selfless people devoted to good and charitable work. As a life-long member of Hungerford Round Table I am compelled to “do my bit” and so in the name of that organisation I will undertake a solo LEJOG bike ride. To be clear I am 49 years old and most definitely not some super-athlete! Normally I cycle about 20 miles of a weekend to burn off a few unwanted calories, whereas for the trip I must cycle around 75 miles (probably 6-7 hours) each day for 14 days continuous, carrying all clothes/luggage/tools etc. I am personally covering all costs for the trip, so every penny donated will go direct to the charity. I am training hard and I expect there will be pain and low moods, but knowing that a lot of people are behind me and that the charity will benefit should help me to prevail.
It would be extremely grateful if you could make a donation to the cause; preferably via the normal just-giving route, or alternatively you can send cheques made payable to Cancer Research UK, Care of Crisp Telecom Limited, P.O. Box 7719, Hungerford, Berkshire RG17 0ZN.
If you would like further information about the trip or have an interest in joining Hungerford Round Table, then please send me an email at keith.mayes@crisptele.com
Thanks for your time.
