Welcome to Ian and Jim's Jogle '11 Page.
In typical mad dogs and Englishmen fashion, we have decided to take on the length of Britain this summer. Like all great ideas it started over a pint and is now looming ever closer.
Both of us were looking for a challenge that we thought could also make a great summer holiday and after toying with the idea of taking part in the Devizes to Westminister canoe race and rowing the Atlantic (not out of the question at some point), we decided to embark on and end-to-end journey.
Contrary to much of the advice we have been given, we are going from North to South. Apparently this is into the face of the prevailing winds but being west country chaps we are hoping the homing beacon will burn bright.
I have been thoroughly disabused of my initial theories that it was A) downhill all the way and B) we could simply get to the top of Ben Nevis and then free-wheel to Lands End. So in the end it will come down to two weeks or hard peddling.
We are aiming to complete the journey in 12 days over the first couple of weeks in September and in the course of our journey, we are hoping to raise as much money as possible for the Fortune Centre of Riding Therapy in Dorset.
The Fortune Centre is a wonderful charity I have come to know through some of those involved. Its mission is to help students with special needs to relate more successfully to others and to have greater and more appropriate control over their own lives, through involvement with horses.
To find out more about who you will be giving to visit: www.fortunecentre.org
Please be assured that all the money goes directly to the centre. Once you donate, they’ll send your money to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So please dig deep and donate now.
Thank you all.
Ian and Jim
