Each year Sir Robert McAlpine select a project team to be part of their annual fundraiser for the Down Syndrome Extra21 charity (www.extra21.org.uk).

This year’s chosen project team is from the US Embassy with BL Harberts Ltd, so it was an honour to be invited to participate.

Its taking place on Saturday 3 May and is an endurance race at Buckmore park, with 18-35 teams of up to 10 drivers battling it out over a 1200m circuit for 6 hours. Could be a slightly daunting prospect, but we have a few budding F1 drivers in our ranks so lets hope we can pull off a shock podium finish!

Last year’s event raised just over £19,000 by the teams which in the current climate was a terrific result. This money allowed DSE21 to fund a week away for a number of families during the October Holiday and support their members with lots of family events, and education days.
