Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. I would be gratefull if you sponsor me online.
Having vitited and provided some relief work in Sri Lanka in the weeks following the Tsunami, I could not resist to take the opportunity to re-visit this beautiful country by taking part in the Cycle Challenge for a good cause.
Having been confronted with political barriers in the provision of aid , I came to the conclusion that small charities such as ICT (International Childcare Trust) might be in the best position to provide effectiv local aid.
The ICT is a small London based Charity which works in partnership with local civil society organisations in Sub-Saharan Africa and Asia to build the self-esteem of children and young people living at the margins of society. They currently support 4 small programmes of work in Cambodia, Kenya, India and Sri Lanka.
Their primary aim, in the aftermath of the tsunami, is to assist in the provision of basic needs, specifically food, shelter, access to education and emotional support to children and their communities affected by the disaster. Their specific objectives are as follows:
To assist in rebuilding 300 houses and reconstructing schools in the fishing village of Arugambe in the Ampara District near Batticaloa (on the North East of the Island - one of the areas worst affected by the tsunami).
To assist with the provision of trauma counselling, family tracing and reunification services for children from Kalutara and Ampara districts, placing as many children as possible with suitable guardians.
For futher information about their activities please visit their website: www.ict-uk.org/ .
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: International Childcare Trust will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
So please sponsor me now!
Many thanks for your support.
