Hi and thank you for visiting my fundraising page
On the 17th May this year I set off on an epic cycle ride from Biarritz in France.
At around 5pm on 23rd May I, along with 22 other saddle weary souls, rode into the harbour at Barcelona having covered 430 miles through the Pyrenees mountains in (literally) all weathers.
Notwithstanding the massive physical effort involved (the climbing was around 27000 feet - roughly equivalent to Mount Everest!), we had encountered rain, sleet, snow and ice, thunderstorms, gusty winds and hot sunshine.
I must admit to having found my mental and physical limits on the notorious Col de Tourmalet (especially having had to take a 17 mile diversion in order to climb it from the more difficult West side) about a mile from the top.
Luckily for me I had a mental image of me telling my little boy that I'd had to quit....and that was enough to get me to the summit! I was broken, but buoyed by the fact that surely it couldn't get any worse than that!
Thankfully, it proved to be the worst day and although the rest of the journey was still very tough, we were prepared to take on anything that Mother Nature put in our way.
You can't, unfortunately, do anything to help in the recovery of my aching limbs or my battle weary bike.
You can, however, help to make the countless hours of pain worthwhile by making a donation.
Please dig deep and sponsor me online.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: The Children's Trust will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
Many thanks for your support.
Ian
