My story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

We have started this page in memory of our precious son Jenson John Barton who was born sleeping 8th of December 2011 weighing 4lb 11and a half ounces.

I was just 5 weeks away from my due date at 35 weeks pregnant. The nursery was ready, hospital bag packed and our babies little coming home outfit ready. We were so excited and could never have predicted what was about to happen.

I woke on Wednesday the 7th of December 2011, as i ate my breakfast i noticed that i had not felt my baby move. He would usually be kicking Garys hand before he went to work, always active in the morning. I did not feel overly concerned as i had seen the midwife on the thursday before and everything was fine. I hesitated ringing the midwives as i thought i was being silly and i would feel my baby move soon. Later that morning something at the back of my mind told me give the birth suite a ring.

I called them and said i havent felt my baby move today. They immediatly said, come in and we'll see whats going on. This was the moment i started to panic, but at 35 weeks pregnant you think you and your baby are safe. Nobody ever warned me of anything different.

Gary and i made the journey to the hospital, once there they did a scan. I could hear that there was no heart beat. The consultant turned to me and said im sorry your babys heart beat has stopped, he has died. I remember crying out loud and the look of shock and hurt on Garys face.

The following few hours are a blurr to me now, i just remember being surrounded by family and feeling scared, numb and heartbroken.

Jenson was born the following morning at 10:43am, Gary and i always had a feeling we were having a boy and we were right. Jenson looked just like Gary, i felt so proud and in love with this beautiful little baby boy in my arms but such sadness that we never got to see him open his eyes, never got to hear him cry. The time we spent with Jenson will stay with me and Gary for the rest of our lives. We miss him every minute of every day.

The reason i have set up this page is because i feel that there is not enough awarness of stillbirths and also not a lot of research into why it happens. We never got an answer as to why Jenson died, all the results came back normal.

I am doing a sponsered 7 mile walk with my sister in law on 13th of may for the count the kicks charity. The charity aims to make more awarness for expectant mums on monitoring babys movements. It reassures expectant mums to contact their midwife if worried about anything. They work closely with health professionals to help raise awareness and rely on public and corporate donations. I chose this charity as i can really relate to what they are promoting and wish that i had been made aware of the information they provide whilst i was pregnant. After losing Jenson i am shocked at how many stillbirths occur yet i had never heard of it until it happened to me.

Thankyou for reading our story and making your donation.
