Hi guys

Please let me tell you what Myself and Gina are doing and why.

Mercy Home is a goverment run organisation in Gwalior, whos aim is to take indian orphans off the streets and out of sight. Many of the children, mostly boys, have physical and mental disabilities and unfortunately the staff do not have the experience, patience or inclination to care for them properly. The children are deprived of  basic medical care and are often left to fester for hours at a time in their beds amongst their urine and faeces. Being denied of love, affection and the most basic of human interaction, many of the children no longer know how to communicate let alone play with each other.

To see for yourself the heartache that these kids go through take a look at the videos below. Please be aware that some people may find some of the footage disturbing.

Over the last 10 years  Gwalior Children's Charity and its volunteers has worked to provide health, education and medical services to poor, needy and disabled children in Gwalior; its slums, rural and remote areas. This has led to the creation of the Snehalaya, an orphanage built on the outskirts of Gwalior, to attend to the needs of children and adults who were being uncared for and at risk of dying in government run orphanages such as Mercy Home. Snehalaya was built with a school, physiotherapy unit, vocational training centre and play area.

From 16th to 30th January 2010 We will be travelling to India to complete two weeks voluntary project work in Gwalior. We have funded the trip ourselves at no cost to the charity and would also like to raise £1000 so that the Gwalior Children's Charity can continue to help India's youngest, poorest and most vunerable people.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Gwalior Children's Hospital gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
