Welcome!
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.
In memory of my father who was cared for in this hospital, I would like to thank you for helping me say thank you, and to give something back. The funds raised will purchase Chemocaps and a special patient lift for Cancer patients.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: The Friends Of King Edward VII Hospital Windsor & The Community will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. The funds raised will purchase Chemocaps and a hoist for Cancer patients.
So please sponsor me now!
Many thanks for your support.
Cas.

Update: 2/3/06 Well thanks guys, we're off to a flying start. Sponsorship forms are now out and circulating, the press are on board and my legs are holding out!
Managed an 80m bike sun with a run after....more of a shuffle really! Very cold and windy. But on schedule with training plan.
Update: Mon 6th Mar. Fell of bike yesterday... Doh! Little bruises, big dent in ego! But entertaining for Dave & Tim who rode with me, as well as the family out on their post sun lunch walk. Rather tiredly made it a 90m bike, with an hour shuffle. Big thanks to Swindon Link Gym & circuits class for £100. Mandy you star! 4 Platoon, B Coy, 1DERR, namely Glen & Mac, 20 years gents...I salute you! McYule... You're a true Englishman!!!
Over 10%.....Great start!
Update: 16th Mar. Injury at mo, due to slipping of bike. Pulled a muscle in lower left leg, so must adopt the 4th discipline....Rest! Hard to do.
Update: Mon 20th....2 Months to go! Leg still injured, saw osteomyologist today AKA Darren Tilley, He reckons I'll be good to train shortly. My northern friends Stainey & Jinky have been pledging....Cheers guys! Be up shortly for some canny craic like!!!
Update: Fri 31 Mar... Hi to all! Big SHOUT to my friends Gary & Co serving our country in Afghanistan! Be Safe!! So, money is still coming in... Thank you one and all, Uncle Ted sent in a generous Cheque and confused us all, LOL. Julie, our office manager has been bending arms of our suppliers and clients with remarkable results, as well as pledging herself and prising money from our Jodi aka Vikki Pollard!! Yeh But!!! Also my training buddy Tim, who has qualified for the World Championships 1/2 Ironman in Florida! Cheers mate.
Training, leg still v. painful so no running, swimming well (swam in UK Swimathon for NCH, 5km or 200 laps...good training) Out on bike for a long one Sun 100m+. Both the Bracknell Standard & News have run adverts, so thanks for their support!
Over £1000! An Awesome Effort, Thank You!
A fantastic achievement... Big thanks to Mike my boss, Frank and Catrina, those pledging in the hospital and my Neighbours.
A month to go! Out on good friday for the full distance on the bike followed by an hour shuffle. Not quite the heat, wind and hills but great Psychologically!
A week to go, yikes! Seems some time ago that I set this up now... Our goal was to raise £1200 to secure some chemocaps which we have now achieved! Fantastic, and now we push for the patient lift.
Dave & Lorraine (cheesy burger) Joe Dean (next year mate?) Thank you for edging us over the milestone. A big shout also to Dave & Sue, Matt & Christine, and Steve & Lisa for joining me shortly!
Now time to deliver.... Thanks to all of you! Last shout to my fellow club members, Mark (top 10 out of water) Stenning, Tom (catch me on the bike if you can) Moore, Paul (Conan, gel-tastic) McCombe, and Graham (Starsky cardigan wearing, longhaired hobbit) Moates! Good luck and race strong. Legend!!!
Amazing....Train Hard! Fight Easy!!!
A dream fulfilled, the day went well. My friends woke me at 0450 armed with video cameras and matching T-shirts sporting the worst picture of me they could find! After a forced breakfast, they helped me down to the start through the wind that Lanzarote is so famed for. The start was busy and I met with all the lads in transition. Into wet suits ready for the first of the three diciplines, Blimey the sea looks choppy!
The Pro's were at the front with their toes in the sea, with -35 age groupers 30m behind on the beach, +35(me) (only just!) had to wait a further minute and 30m to the rear, as safety was the thought due to congestion at the first bouy. Bang! the gun fired and I took cover... they were off, that minute lasted longer...Bang! we were off. Being my first Ironman, I stayed at the rear, taking a further 2mins to get into the sea, now the heart was pumping but training soon took over and I was focussed. Getting kicked is the part'n'parcel of open water swims...and we all recieved a few hoofs to head. But why I kept getting my leg pulled, I have no idea. Lap 1 and all was going well, tried diving back in on 2nd lap but goggles came off (school boy error) another 30 odd minutes and I was running up the beach to Transition 1 to ditch wetsuit and don bike attire. Friends were there (big grin) lovely ladies rubbing sun lotion on to you whilst we changed ready for the longest part of the day......
Now time to eat...Mmmm mouth feels like and old flip flop (effects of filtering sea water for an hour) so, lets get chomping the energy bars and drink. First part of course is fastest and is easy to over cook and pay later... kept sensible and enjoyed sun and wind! Through Fire Mountain... and the sun is reminding you of its power, feels like my flesh is burning! People all round the course, but no energy bars on course...Whats happened? Raw bananas only... Glad I put a cheeseburger in my personal bag on top of highest mountain, although getting there and seeing friends was alot more enjoyable than said fastfood... one more mountain and its big ring all the way home (smiling inside). Had several bonding moments with Jeanette from Holland (ask me later)....Coming into Transition 2 was awesome...I felt euphoric, skin tingled and a cheesy smile grew across my face, 25,000 people cheering and supporting...(tiredness vanishes) into T2 into trainers, more cream on now burnt flesh, and onto 3rd discipline....a marathon!
I can't explain what it feels like physically, your legs feel alien, feet and toes feel numb... but the support is the best pain killer! My support was fantastic, and you soon meet people over the course that you get to appreciate (the young scottish folks at aid station 1 were amazing) Lap 1 done, saw race leader...he looked worried!! OK, until he realised I had only 1 band (denotes laps) Boy, it was hot...Very hot. but seeing your friends on the course and supporting really aids. Add to that the constant thoughts of how you got there, the sacrifices, hardships, memories, support, charity, expectations, pride, your emotions too flood the pain away... Coming down the home straight.....Wow, you all need to do one for that feeling.... A grin and thanks to my mates that were everywhere all day...run through the finish...flash, handshake, medal, photo...Done! 12:25 was my time (very happy) I was lucky not to need a drip, so off to massage tent. within 15 mins, a pretty girl called my name and I smiled again, then she showed me to a table where a geezer and girl gave me a 15 min massage. Out to meet mates!
A shower, change and back down to see friends finish and see if I could stomach a pint....Only one...that night!!!!
A perfect day! Thank you all!! The good feeling continues with all of you now, as we have raised enough to purchase 4 Chem caps!!! FANTASTIC....

Well Folks.... Patients today are using the caps you have bought! Met up with Colleen (chairman) yesterday, and was shown the 3 caps that your generous funds have purchased! That's enough for a cancer patient for a days treatment, every day of there treatment. 20 Mins before, 30 Mins during, 40 Mins post treatment! I am hoping to cover the fridge housing the caps with sticky plastic embossed with all the donors names!
I hope to have a photo on next visit.
