More than 45,500 - that’s around 1 in 9 women - are diagnosed with breast cancer every year in the UK. Diagnosis and treatment can have a huge emotional and physical impact on a woman and her family. As well as physical symptoms such as pain, nausea and hair loss, people often experience feelings of shock, fear and anxiety. Breast Cancer Haven is a registered charity providing support services to help them cope. Tailored to an individual’s needs and medical treatment, the charity’s programme of care focuses on the whole person – to help them feel better physically and emotionally and live a healthier life. There are 3 Havens - in London, Hereford and Leeds where Visitors can come and benefit from the expertise of our specialist nurses, therapists and counsellors and also from meeting others going through a similar experience. People who can’t get to a Haven can call our clinical specialists and counsellors or get information from our website. In addition, our DVD/CD and online support package called Breast Cancer Haven at Home is available from January 2009. Breast Cancer Haven’s services are free of charge and available to anyone who has been affected by breast cancer and those close to them. In the absence of any government funding, the charity is dependent on charitable donations and fundraising events to continue delivering this vital service.

My story

Right, this is it.... the Tri Hard Challenge starts here. The key to this is the three parts to the event.

Part One - .New York Marathon (2nd November 2008)
All completed! See the photo opposite! I managed to finish in 7hrs 22mins (not the time you see there) And my god was it the most painful self inflicted day of my life! But worth every second....

Part Two - The London Triathlon (August 2009)
I've done it! l completed the Olympic distance which is 1.5k swim, 40k bike and 10k run. It was really good fun, I took my time as the preparation hadn't been perfect but had great fun. Can't wait to do another.

Part Three - Trek to Everest Base Camp (2010)
This is a 17 day trek to the base of the top of the world, I'll never be dumb enough to try and climb it but this is the closest I can get. This is now booked for Christmas and New Year!

I can't speak highly enough about the Breast Cancer Haven and how much they did for me and thousands of other women (and men). I have raised enough money to cover what I used when I went already but now I want to extend that help to so many more people. They are currently raising funds to open a centre in Leeds and I hope that this can go some way to helping.

All of the expenses of this adventure will be covered by myself so all the money raised will be going to the charity. You can chose to sponsor one part or all three sections, please specify in your comment section if you are picking one item and I'll let you know how I get on. So please help me to fulfil a dream that got me through treatment and take me to the top of the world!
