My story

Thank you for visiting this page and supporting me in raising awareness for Médecins Sans Frontières. Making sponsership through this page is simple, safe and quick  and together we can reach the £3000 target, if not more.

On the 28th June this year I will be flying from New Zealand to Istanbul and embarking on a 3000km solo bike ride across Europe to Cambridge, raising awareness for Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) along the way.

If you have never heard of Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) then here we go... MSF is a medical relief organization dedicated to bringing help to people in the worst circumstances in the world. MSF goes where other relief organizations (NGO's) will not. Where circumstances are the most desperate, the most dangerous and the most hopeless... you will find Médecins Sans Frontières. MSF is transparent and neutral without any political or religious affiliations, and does not accept donations from Pharmaceutical companies or companies that make Tobacco or Alcohol. Part of their job is to witness and report violations of human rights and dignity. MSF helps all persons who need them, regardless of their race, religion, politics or gender. MSF won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1999. MSF is dedicated to serving not just those people suffering from disasters in the spotlight but other tragedies in the world that are receiving less media attention, and less help, such as in the Congo, where 150 000 are killed every five months.

If you can afford a newspaper and a coffee on the way to work then you can afford to donate. You are obscenely wealthy compared to most people in the world. This isn’t a subscription. you won’t get pestered with junk mail, just a one off sponsership to support an average guy trying to do some good, risking life and limb biking a continent unsupported. This isn’t a charity where your donation will go to pay some office clerks wages, >85% your donation will go straight to the front line where help is administered. For example, your donation can provide:

£21: Two high-energy meals a day to 200 children
£30: Vaccinations for 50 people against meningitis, measles, polio or other deadly epidemics
£60: Infection-fighting antibiotics to treat nearly 40 wounded children
£150: A sterilization kit for syringes and needles used in mobile vaccination campaigns
£300: A medical kit containing basic drugs, supplies, equipment, and dressings to treat 1,500 patients for three months
£610: Emergency medical supplies to aid 5,000 disaster victims for an entire month

To donate all you need to do is go to http://www.justgiving.com/istanbul-cambridge. Justgiving is a really quick and secure way to donate (millions of people use it) and is also the best way to donate because it is tax free. I have just got the ball rolling by donating £100, it literally takes 2 minutes to do and it goes directly to MSF tax free. In return for your support I’ll  provide you all with some entertaining reading by posting my journal on blogspot when I stumble across internet cafes. All in all It shall be a jolly good adventure.

I really appreciate your support

Thanks Everyone.
