On 14th October 2010 with my good friends Sarah and Dale, we are getting off our bums and trekking our way to the top of Kilimanjaro, which is a whopping 5,896 metres high.  We will be taking on this Mountain over 7 days and battling our way through temperatures which can reach to -20c degrees. I am doing this trek to raise money for Alzheimers Society.

Alzheimer’s is something that now affects nearly every family. One of the cruellest features of this disease is the prolonged period of 'living grief' where families have to say goodbye to their loved ones years before the disease finally claims its victim. It is truly a 'death by a thousand cuts'.  Unlike aggressive diseases that can kill in a matter of months, Alzheimer's claims its victims with a progressive deterioration in the quality of life for the sufferer and an unrelenting burden on the lives of carers.

As a result of seeing what impact dementia has had on my gran, I feel I need to do something to help raise money to help the fight against dementia .  Witnessing her deterioration from a proud, self-sufficient woman to one who can’t recognise her only granddaughter is deeply upsetting.

My dream is that researchers can find a way to stop or a cure for this killer of lives and robbers of precious lifetime memories.  Climbing Kilimanjaro for Alzheimer's would give me a way to do something in the name of my gran Dorrie Crozier and many, many others.  (I'm also doing this trek for Jonny Duffields Dad and Abi Tarran-Jones gran)

I  am not a big walker and i dont like the cold so this really is the challenge of a lifetime. I hope you feel you can help by digging deep while I climb high and that together, our efforts will help make a difference. . . . . .

Memories truly are everything!!!!

Jackie x x
