Chantal here - speaking on James' behalf!

"For anyone who knows James, they will know how much he adores this little van. It is made by Piaggio, who make Vespas (wasp in Italian) and is really a 50cc vespa in a bigger body, so called the APE - meaning bee! James is determined to make lots of money for his charities by doing this epic drive. The Geordie mechanics at Mac Motors in Tooting said "You must be MAD!" (he did buy the van from Madvans in the first place).

The APE travels very slowly (25mph downhill with following wind etc), is very cramped and uncomfortable but everyone stops to look and smile as it goes past, and it's covered in the blue and white Rococo designs. in 5 years the furthest James has been in it is Vauxhall to Ealing and back - which is a twenty mile round trip.

James is planning to do a massive journey to raise money for three charities, TRELOARs,  SENSE and WATERAID. He is driving from John O'Groats to Land's End which is over 800 miles. Hoping to do between 150 and 200 miles a day, it will take the best part of a week if he is really lucky! We are looking forward to having him out of our hair for a week...which starts on 15th May... Sadly I cannot squeeze in as it is really only built for one apart from on a very short ride.

He will have fantastic support from Stuart Boreham, no stranger to raising money for good causes. Stuart has rowed the Atlantic, and done the same route as James is planning on a 7mph lawn mover. Stuart will tow the Ape up to Scotland and back from Cornwall and provide moral support ("...back ache? You should try rowing the Atlantic single handed!...")

You will be able to follow his progress on the map which we will put on the Rococo website, and if anyone can offer a bed for the night esp in the Inverness/Aviemore OR Warrington/ West Manchester area please do shout!

Rococo has supported many charities with raffle prizes and free chocolates over the years and very rarely turned anyone down so please tell as many friends as you can about this, and dig deep in aid of 3 very good causes.

Thanks so much

Chantal & James
