The physical and mental preparation of the last few months finally paid off just before 14.00 on Sunday 13th April. I completed the 2008 Flora London Marathon in 4 hours, 7 minutes and 10 seconds. It is difficult to explain the amazing feeling of running the marathon but one thing I am clear about is that London is a fantastic city. I felt honoured to be part of such a special event. The support around the course was unbelievable and the cheering from my loved ones ensured the adrenalin went straight to my legs. It has been a real team effort and I would like to thank you for your encouraging words and last minute tips (Mum x, Dad and Simon have been brilliant). I especially want to thank Orla for her understanding, patience and support. As I put Chloe to bed on Sunday evening, I felt proud of how far my little family have come. The shock, trauma, anger and frustrations of recent years have dissolved into moments of joy, faith, hope and love. I feel very lucky. Finally, thank you all for your generousity and support. To raise in excess of £10,000 for such a good cause has been a tremendous collective effort. My initial expectations were far exceeded and the response has been overwhelming. Best wishes to you all. Love from James x 15th April 2008 ps. updated photo to follow! +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ A massive thank you to everyone who has donated so far. As you can see, I have increased my target to £8,000 due to the unbelievable response I have had. Training is going well. I have done three half marathons (Watford, Brighton and Reading) and a 20 mile run (Enfield!). I am also attempting another long run this weekend and then scale back training for the last two weeks. However, I did have a curry last night - first one of the year - I couldn't wait any longer! Thank you all again for your generous support. x (20th March 2008) ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. As you may know, I am running the 2008 Flora London Marathon for Great Ormond Street Hospital. Orla and myself have been to GOSH on many occasions with our beautiful daughter Chloe and have always been treated well. We realise the hospital will play an important role throughout her early years. This is the first time I have raised money for good causes and Chloe has been my main motivation.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity (GOSHCC) will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. My generous employers will also donate a lump sum towards the charity.
Many thanks for your support !
Love from James
