APPEAL FOR DONATIONS TO THE CHARITY, HELP FOR HEROES
Dear Friend,
Thanks for taking the time to visit the JustGiving page dedicated to the fearless spirit of "our brave boy", Rifleman James Brown who sacrificed his life to save others whilst on duty in Helmand Province, Afghanistan on Tuesday 15th December 2009.
Having only passed out from training on 18th September 2009 and after less than two weeks in Afghanistan, James, at the tender age of just 18 years, along with his colleague, Lance Corporal David Kirkness, both standing their ground at a makeshift checkpoint, prevented two suicide bombers aboard a motorcycle from entering a crowded marketplace. Realising that James and David were preventing them from reaching their intended target and causing maximum devastation, the bombers detonated their explosives, killing James and David. It is quite clear that James's and David's completely selfless and heroic action saved the lives of countless civilians, men, women and children.
You will find the BBC coverage of this story at http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/8417964.stm
James's loss has left us devastated and, apart from his parents, his 3 young sisters Steph, Sam and Ellie, 1 year old nephew Reece, stepdad David and girlfriend Hayley all miss him terribly. He is also sorely missed by his friends, too numerous to mention, whose lives he touched in one way or another in the short time he spent in this world.
We, James's family, wish to honour his memory and the memory of all fallen soldiers by raising funds for Help For Heroes, a wonderful charity dedicated to helping servicemen who have suffered injuries in Afghanistan and Iraq, a charity which James himself actively supported before he went to Afghanistan.
You can help to carry on the good work which James started by making a donation here for the benefit of Help For Heroes. Please act in the spirit of the Rifles Battalion - be "Swift and Bold" and make your donation today. Any help, large or small, will be greatly appreciated.
