I am a listening volunteer in the Preston Samaritans branch and have been a volunteer for three and a half years. Samaritans is a cause dear to me, it is that friend, that listens, give you a face to talk and gives you kind words by way of text or email. It is that friend that does not judge you what you have done wrong. Samaritans awareness day (24/7) is a day where we show the public side of Samaritans , the person behind the email, phone or text. If you want to know more about the organisation please look at http://www.samaritans.org/.

I thought of many things that a very unfit, overweight person can you do to celebrate an awareness day for Samaritans on 24/7, sponsored eat-a-thon or sponsored silence. No No No, I will walk over 350 miles in 9 days (yes 9 days). After walking from Preston to Lancaster via Blackpool I have decided to give up the walk for medical reason and practical common sense.

After completing the walk to Lancaster the kind people of Lancaster which included a nurse looked at my feet and decided that Day 2 (Saturday)  would be crazy to walk on them so the plan would be start at Barrow today but the earliest time in Barrow to start walking would be at the earliest around 1130. The walk according to Google Maps take approximately 14 hours with a possible completion time of 2:00 in the morning, the knockon effect would be crazy and the walk would  become a complete shambles. The main issue which I agreed with my branch was giving up when it felt right to me.  I also want to still complete a challenge of 464 miles on a exercise bike as well as walking from Southport on 24/7 itself

Day 1 and 2 now completed at gym 116 miles a day(Not up to Tour De France standard more like Frances De La Tour). I appreciate all the support from the sponsorship and short words of encouragement hope to see you in Preston 24/7.

I am sorry to have let people down especially those who have stayed positive throughout  me them nagging to sponsor me and even though you may had reservations of your own you have supported me and stayed positive. Now where is that bike!!!!! It would n't ride itself

I have completed the challenge of 464 miles on an exercise bike and walked the final stage of the walk, Southport to Preston. I feel that the encouragement of my fellow Samaritans, friends and colleagues have helped me the hard times during this challenge. A massive thank you

Thank you
