Hello!
As many of you know I am taking part in the Great North Swim in Lake Windermere this September to help raise money for Deafblind UK, a charity that is very close to my heart. This means I will be swimming 1 mile in open water in the cold !
As a deafblind person (I have partial hearing but no sight) I will be relying on my guide swimmer Adrian Waddy to keep me on course during the swim! Using a system of touch-based guiding Adrian will make sure I am safe and on course to complete this personal challenge.
Those who are closest to me will know that many years ago I swam for Great Britian, winning 2 silver medals in the Great Britain Relay Team at the Barcelona Paralympics. However, it is a long time since then and with my family and work commitments I need to fit in some training before the big day if I’m going to really enjoy the Great North Swim! My local Esporta Health Club, of which I am a member, have therefore very generously given Adrian a complimentary pass so he can train alongside me in the next few months. I can’t thank them enough.
I am really excited to be taking part in the Great North Swim as an equal, with the opportunity to race across open water with all the other participants.
All I need to do now is raise as much money as possible for my Charity, Deafblind UK (www.deafblind.org.uk). And that’s where you can help me……
Please be generous and give as much as you can to support my efforts, I know my charity really need all the help you can give.
I’d really like to raise £500 if possible – let’s see if we can do it together.
Thanks
Janice
