My story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. Here is my story:......
My husband and I were both in the Army, enjoying our careers, newly married and living a great life then in traumatic circumstances I was widowed at the age of 29. This was without doubt the darkest day of my life. Over time the grief began to sting less, but the memory of that day and the aftermath that followed in trying to establish a life without him and trying not to feel guilty in moving forward is still sometimes difficult.
Having served in the Army myself I was aware of the Army Benevolent Fund and have attended various fundraisers, it was through them that I found our about the Army Widows Association.
Supported by the ABF the Army Widows Association is a charity run by widows for widows. This inspirational group of women are non judgmental and have a common understanding, so talking about my experience wasn't taboo and I made instant friends. I became so passionate about the AWA and the support they give that I became a committee member in 2010.
The AWA are totally reliant on fundraising and donations in order to provide support in many ways to widows and their families.
I am running this Marathon not only in memory of Steve, but in memory of all those who have tragically lost their lives and for their families left behind, to hopefully be an inspiration to other widows and to let them know that the support is here for them. This is not an easy task and I am not a natural runner, so I could do two things: let time pass me by or do something amazing and give something back to those who picked me up when I needed it most!
There is only one person running and raising money on Marathon day for the AWA ........ ME !!
So dig deep and donate now, it is quite simply your support that will get me through on the day and your generosity will not go un-noticed.
Please pass this justgiving page onto your family, friends and work colleagues and let others know of my challenge in the hope that they too will donate. I really would appreciate it.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
Thank you x

The Army Widows' Association was formed by a group of Army widows in 2004.It aims to offer support and friendship to those who have sadly lost their husband/wife or recognised partner at any stage of their bereavement through mutual empathy, experiences and by signposting new members to other sources of help at such a difficult time in their lives.

The AWA offers its support to all widows bereaved since 1981, death can have been as a result of many reasons: illness, RTA, conflict, suicide, training accidents. We hold an annual weekend and other events where widows can meet up, meet others who are in the same situation as themselves, find out lots of information, raise issues and are developing a network of smaller Regional meetings to improve our support.
