Friends, family and I walked for charity for the first time in 2008 and in memory of Pat Thomas, our mum. Mum died with her family around her with dignity and in comfort at the St Peter and St James Hospice, after a short illness brought on by Cancer a few days after her 65th birthday, on 29 April that year. Annually we have a get together at a handful of fundraising events to raise several blisters and a few aches and pains, but also much needed funds for the four main Cancer Hospices in our area under the fund raising title of "Hike4Hospices", walking 23 miles across the Downs and around the Sussex countryside in August 2008/2009. We've raised another few hundred directly following the Hike ( August 21-22nd, 2010) Why not log on to Hike4Hospices and register for 2011!. Everest Base Camp is a challenging Himalayan adventure trek up Everest. The high altitude alpine trek explores the heart of the Sherpa homeland, before ascending the Gokyo Valley to the glacial lakes under Cho Oyu (8153 m). Climbing Gokyo Ri and the rest of this impressive, physically demanding, high mountain wilderness; crossing the glaciated Cho La Pass ascending to Everest Base Camp several days later.
