Last year I managed to clock up three charity bike rides in the relatively tame environment and terrain of good old England.  This year I am going a little further.  I have signed up to a 420 km ride across the dirt tracks of Kenya, taking in the Aberdare Mountains and climbs up to 2,300m.

See www.cyclekenya.com for further details.

Why ?????

To raise money for an incredibly worthy charity, -the International Childcare Trust. (http://www.ict-uk.org/ )  This is a London based charity with projects in Cambodia, Kenya, India, Sri Lanka and Tanzania. The charity works with local partners to give some of the world's most vulnerable children back their childhood.  These include:
AIDS orphans

Street and working children (many who would be considered child labourers)

Children and young people displaced by extreme poverty, disease or armed conflict

Children and young people who come from broken homes

Ultimately, ICT envisages a world where all children, regardless of their socio-economic status, are able to reach their full potential.

£5 will pay for tetanus vaccinations for 20 kids.
£25 will provide food support for a family of 5 for a month (e.g. rice, meat and veg for a single parent family with sick main carer/ bread winner)
£38 will pay for a family education workshop for 80 families on health issues, incl transport to and from center.
£50 will pay for the salary of an outreach teacher in the slum areas, providing informal education to young children, unable to access our bigger centers.
£100 will assist a poor family in replacing a leaking roof, which of course is a health risk to whole family.

£250 will pay for slides and safe play equipment for a community playground in the slum areas.
£15 would provide 2 street children with healthcare for one month

£20 would cover the cost of school uniform and annual school fee for one child per year.
£50 would provide a child with daily meals for one month.
£100 would offer care and support to a child worker/orphan and their family for two months.
