My story

Thank you for visiting our fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor us online. To celebrate 40 years of living with Type 1 Diabetes Michael and I have planned a seven day walking trip into the interior of Cuba’s highest Mountain range to raise funds for Diabetes research.

The trip in March starts by hiking up to Fidel Castro’s and Che Guevara secret jungle hideout and base of operations during the Cuban revolution and continues with the ascent of Aguada de Joaquins (4,200ft). The following day we climb to the peak of Joaquins (5,253ft), along the ridge and finally ascent to Pico Turquino (6,470ft) to complete the climb. After the climb we will then commence a long decent of 8-9 hours. Along the way we stay in basic hotels as well as camping for a couple nights and staying in a mountain hut.

We aim to raise £2000 which will go into the neonatal genetic work of Professor Andrew Hattersley and the hypoglycaemic work of Dr Kenneth Macleod at the Peninsula Medical School in Exeter.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: The Peninsula Medical School Foundation will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

So please sponsor us now!

Many thanks for your support.
