On Sunday 6th December, I will be running in the 5K Santa Run in Greenwich Park to raise money for The Place2Be.
The Place2Be is an amazing charity that places counsellors in primary schools around the UK, offering support to children, their families and their teachers, and helping them deal with a range of problems, from bullying and the death of a pet hamster, to death of a parent, divorce, domestic violence, abuse, and a whole load of other things that really do not bear thinking about. These counsellors all work for free, but the servcie is not free to run, so I am running to ensure that these children can continue to receive the support that they need, and help to expand our service. Over 600 volunteer counsellors currently work in 155 schools - we aim to be working in 190 schools by the end of 2010.

Instead, I'm going to steal the words of a 9 year old girl, who this morning reduced a room full of adults to tears with her words:
'The best thing about The Place2Be is that you can tell the counsellor when you are being bullied, and she will help you and won't tell anyone. But when you are being really really hurt at home, she will get help so you feel safe.'
I'm paying £20 for the privilege of giving up my Saturday night out, and my Sunday morning lie in, to go jogging (note I say jogging, not running) round Greenwich Park dressed in a Santa Suit. I'm asking everyone to sponser me £1. Its not much, I can't even think of anything you can buy with £1, and I'm hoping that even though its Christmas, you will be able to spare just £1. Of course, if you wish to donate more, that would be lovely too!
