Amani Children's Home is dedicated to the protection of Tanzania's most vulnerable population: street-children and AIDS orphans. It is estimated that there are 2.5 million orphaned children in Tanzania.
Since its founding by Tanzanians in 2001, Amani has rescued hundreds of children from the perils of life on the streets, where they face a high risk of HIV transmission, malnutrition, and abuse.
Amani, which means “peace” in Swahili, provides healthy food, education, counseling and medical care for every child who turns to them for help.
I have been lucky enough to spend time with the children and staff at Amani Children's Home. It is a wonderful place and I have since become a member of Friends of Amani (UK), who work to raise awareness and much-needed funds for this incredible organisation.
In 2009 I will be taking part in 3 different events. As well as running in the BUPA London 10,000 on Monday 25th May, I shall also be taking part in the Sony Ericsson 'Run to the Beat' Half Marathon on Sunday 27th September, and the BUPA Great South Run (10miles) on the 25th October. (This justgiving site covers all three events).I shall be training hard (hoping to run all the way in all three of the events) and would be incredibly grateful for your sponsorship. Please also take the time to check out the Amani Children's Home website: http://amanikids.org
Thanks again,
Jen
