Thanks very much to everyone who has donated so far! You've all been extremely generous and I'm truly grateful (as I'm sure the school will be too). If you haven't donated yet and would like to, please do. Any additional money will go to another suitable project within the school - possibly walls for the kitchen. Thanks again! x x
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In the second week of February this year I climbed Kilimanjaro. It was a really memorable experience and definitely one of the hardest things I've done in my life. I wanted to get sponsored before the trip but unfortunately, You Touch Africa, the charity who helped me organise my trip to Tanzania weren't registered on Justgiving.com at the time, so I was unable to set up a page on here then, so I'm doing it in retrospect and hope you'll be able to sponsor me!
While I was in Tanzania I was volunteering at a primary school called Kimanganuni Primary School in the Kilimanjaro region of Tanzania, which is a poor area of a very poor country. The school does a really good job to educate the local school children on a really tight budget, like many of the schools in Tanzania. The class sizes are really big and there are few books. The children are really sweet and well-behaved and really wanted to learn.
I decided to raise money to provide a new cooking area for the school as this is something which will benefit the whole school. At the moment the cooking is done by the cook and with some of the children's help on the ground on some stones. When it rains the rain comes in and it is quite dangerous as the flames from the fire can burn whoever is cooking the food. The parents and school tried to build a new cooking area but they ran out of money to finish building it (many of the parents struggle to pay the yearly contribution which all parents must pay of 30,000 Tanzanian Shillings, or about £14 which is for food for their children). There is no help from the government for things like this.
A new cooking area would mean the food could be cooked more safely and off the ground, and more than one pot of food could be cooked at a time meaning the food would be cooked more quickly and more food could be cooked for the children. It will cost 900,000 TSH to build and complete the work that has already been started which is £440.
The charity You Touch Africa do really great work in Tanzania working with local people in the area to try and help relieve poverty and to help the people there live self-sufficiently. All money will go directly to this project.
This is something which would really benefit the 400 children and staff at this school so please help! Thank you so so much in advance!
