I am running the Manchester 10k Race on Sunday 15th May.

I am raising money for the Charity Mercy Corps who are working with local Japanese organisation Peace Winds to support families in Japan who's lives were devastated and homes washed away by the Tsunami.

On the 11th March 2011 (two months ago) the Great East Japan Earthquake hit. This was an undersea megathrust earthquake which measured magnitude 9.0, it was the most powerful earthquake known to have hit Japan and one of the 5 most powerful on record anywhere in the world.
The tsunami that followed travelled 10km inland in some places (as far as I will be running!)

The number of people still living in evacuation centres stands at about 115,000. A new school year has begun and many school buildings have had to be split.  Half evacuation centre, half school.

Mercy Corps are also preparing activities for the children, with creative arts and sports and offering information to parents and counsellors on what to expect from children who have experienced trauma.
