One of the important aspects of B@titude from the beginning has been our desire and hope to be able to make a difference as a community overseas as well as in our own locality. We have valued and enjoyed the opportunities we have had so far and we have a big adventure planed for May 2008.
Through our relationship and connection with African Revival Trust we are planning to take a group of mums and daughters to Zambia, to get inolved with one particular farming community that the Charity is working with. Some of our aspirations for the trip are to help make clay ovens which will cut the cooking time down for African women by two thirds, hopefully be able to shadow some of the women for a day, work in the preschool and help at the medical post as well as spend time in a nearby orphanage.
Zambia has a population of 10.5 million with a life expectancy of 38 years. Infant mortality is 102 in every 1000 and the secondary school enrollment rate for girls is only 21%.
It would be a very special thing to be able to take a small group of mums and daughters out to Zambia to experience life in a totally different culture, hopefully providing a space to be able to give practical support and develop ongoing friendships, making a contribution towards the work that is going on in that particular location and bringing something back into their own locality of North Leatherhead.
If you can help in anyway then please feel free to contact us through the beatitude website on www.beatitude.org.uk. If you wish to donate towards this trip, then giving through this site is simple, fast and totally secure; and if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
