On Sunday September 11 members of my family and I will be attempting something we have never done before by running in the Robin Hood Nottingham Marathon to raise money for the Myotonic Dystrophy Support Group. My wife, daughter (12), son (9), niece (13) and nephew (11) will be running the mini-marathon (2.5 miles) while I give the 13 mile half marathon a go. We would be extremely grateful for any donations you can give us to reach our target.
Myotonic dystrophy is the most common type of muscular dystrophy and in addition to wasting of the muscles also causes severe and life threatening problems in many other parts of the body. It affects both adults and children although babies born with myotonic dystrophy are particularly severely affected and require care throughout life. The Myotonic Dystrophy Support Group provides essential support and information for families affected by Myotonic Dystrophy as well as raising awareness of this tragic disease. In addition to their vital work with the affected families the Myotonic Dystrophy Support Group is helping research into more effective medical treatments for patients. I am attempting to identify the specific ways in which the genetic mutation which causes the disease affects human cells through my research at the University of East Anglia, Norwich. By running in the marathon my family and I hope to be able to give something back to the Myotonic Dystrophy Support Group in recognition and thanks for their support of this important work. So please give generously and together we can help not only people already touched by Myotonic Dystrophy but through further research provide hope for future generations affected by this tragic disease.
Thank you for any support you are able to give.
