Our results - and our children - speak for themselves! Auditory VerbalUK is the UK's only Centre for Auditory Verbal Therapy. Every day in Britain, two children are born with severe and permanent hearing impairment. This disability will leave many of these children isolated and failing to achieve their educational and social potential. Advances in hearing aid and cochlear implant technology, combined with AVT, enable children to learn how to listen, to understand what they are hearing and to speak for themselves. My story

Hi everyone, We are back from our charity cycling London to Paris adventure.

The trip was really fun and a bit easier than anticipated. There were quite a few large hills to conquer but we are both proud to be undefeated.

The first day was the toughest with a time limit to get from Blackheath, London to Dover for a 5:50pm ferry and a steep climb up Hillingbourne Hill in between!

The next three days were more relaxed with beautiful undulating French countryside. Day 2 we were snapped by a google street map car!

The best day was by far the last day when on mass, the 121 cyclists who took part, cycled into Paris, around the Arc de Triomphe and finished at the Eiffel Tower.

It was a fantastic experience, and one we would like to do again!

The drive and motivation for training for such an event is to help raise money for AVUK a national charity which helps severely and profoundly deaf children to listen and speak. Nowadays, deaf children have access to amazing hearing aids and cochlear implants, but they often do not get the support they need to develop age-appropriate listening and spoken language.

AVUK helps 55 children at any given time to close the language gap with their hearing peers so that they can enter mainstream schools and have an equal start in life. It also reaches many more families by training professionals in local services. This partnership work is helping to ensure that excellent provision and outcomes are made available locally.
