Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page and helping me celebrate my 40th birthday!
When I celebrated my 30th birthday, I was pregnant with our first baby, now know to us all as Lauranne! Not too long after, as many of you know, Lauranne was born on 16th August 2000 at 30 weeks gestation weighing 3lbs and 8oz - she needed a lot of TLC and equipment to help her through. We became residents at the Special Care Baby Unit at the University Hospital of North Staffordshire until 13th September 2000 when Lauranne was discharged weighing at that point a whole 3lb and 10oz. The hospital was able to provide us with the special care needed as well as providing residential accommodation to me whilst Lauranne was in hospital.
In 2002, Jack Sheridan Finney was born, again prematurely, although this time we got a bit further along and Jack was born at 34 weeks weighing 6lbs and 4oz. We availed ourselves again of the specialist skills within the Special Care Baby Unit as Jack had to have some treatment (although no incubator this time).
The hospital has just opened a new Maternity Unit but has not yet been able to buy enough intensive care cots / incubators and associated drips, pumps and monitors to fill all the available spaces that they have. Each unit costs around £70,000.
Here's where you and I can help - I am about to hit the big 40 and a very lucky girl so instead of any gifts I would like to request that instead a donation is made to this website which will be sent to University Hospital of North Staffordshire specifically for use in their Special Care Baby Unit. As Gift Aid (tax) is reclaimable, if you are a tax payer, they will actually receive a bit more than you donate so even better.
Many thanks from me and all the babies that you will help grow into Laurannes and Jacks.
