Story
Hello,
Many thanks for visiting my fund-raising page.
Over 2 weeks at the end of May / beginning of June, my colleague Steve Boston and I completed a long distance bike ride from Land's End to John O' Groats and we will both raised money for charity. The recipients of your generous sponsorship is the Marie Curie Cancer Care organisation.
This bike ride was self-supporting (i.e. no back-up van) and we did not take any expenses from the money raised - all of the cash pledged to Marie Curie Cancer Care will go to them.
I've set a fundraising target of £1000, because the last time I rode Land's End to John O' Groats it was just over 1000 miles.
The planned route is:
LE, along south coast of Cornwall to Plymouth; to the south of Dartmoor to Exeter; then Glastonbury; Bristol; over the Severn Bridge; Monmouth, Hereford; Telford; Crewe; Chorley; up the A6 to Carlisle; Dumfries; Ayr; Gourock; Loch Lomond; Rannoch Moor and Glen Coe; Fort William; Inverness; up the A9 to Wick; then JO'G. Just to finish things off, we will then have a day winding-down by riding around the main islands in the Orkneys.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Marie Curie Cancer Care gets your money faster and if you are a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid plus a further 3% supplement are added to your donation.
Please get your credit card out and sponsor me now - it should take no more than 2 or 3 minutes to make a donation - painless!
Many thanks for your help,
John G
Postscript dated 06/06/2009: Steve and I completed the ride a couple of days ago - the weather was generally good and the bikes (and ourselves) kept on going - no mechanical or bio-mechanical problems.
The actual distance recorded from Land's End to John O' Groats was 1008.4 miles, this was completed in 11 days and 2 hours. The final mileage for the trip as a whole was 1082.7 miles, including riding from Penzance to LE at the start and other mileage clocked-up in the Orkneys.
I hope to do it again ...
