About John Grooms

John Grooms is a national Christian-based charity serving the needs of more than 40,000 disabled people and their families every year. Its aim is to work in partnership with people with disabilities to improve their quality of life, to maximise their freedom of choice, and to respect their dignity at all times.

Residential and nursing care

John Grooms has 9 residential and nursing homes in the UK, accommodating more than 180 people. Care in John Grooms' homes ranges from personal development centres, where staff are considered facilitators encouraging independence, to homes catering for those with high dependency needs.

Housing

John Grooms Housing Association has built more than 1,000 wheelchair accessible houses, enabling people with disabilities to be part of the community. It is estimated that Britain needs a further 30,000 wheelchair accessible homes.

The Icanho Brain injury rehabilitation centre

Opened in 1998, Icanho is a £1.5million purpose-built centre with a multi-disciplinary team of specialists, including physiotherapists and speech therapists, who help in the recovery from serious brain injuries.

FAITH training centre

FAITH is a horticultural training centre in north London providing training for adults with disabilities, a schools' education programme and a garden centre.

Disability Education

Barclays bank have kindly donated more than £250,000 to enable John Grooms to develop an education pack for schools in England and Wales to help raise awareness of disability issues with children.

Holidays for all

John Grooms is one of the leading providers of holidays properties for people with disabilities and their families.

International work

John Grooms has a specialist working with the Centre for the Paralysed in Bangladesh and, due to the success of this project, Grooms is now developing a facilitating network encouraging skills sharing amongst disability organisations across Asia.
