Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. UPDATE: I made it round in one piece! It was a wonderful experience, despite the rain, and an unforgettable day. I took it steadily all the way round in view of my injury in early March which stopped me running for a month but managed to get progressively faster as the race went on finishing in 4.19. THANK YOU to all my sponsors and it is not too late to give more.
I am running the London Marathon on 13 April 2008 in memory of my mother who died 20 years ago this spring with MS. She lived with MS for about 18 years before that and at the time of diagnosis had 5 children under the age of 14. This terrible disease changed all our lives in so many ways. The MS Society did a great job in helping my mother and I hope to raise a lot of money so that they can carry on helping others in the same situation as my family and so that one day they might find a cure.
Although I am a reasonably fit and active veteran rower I can safely say that training for the marathon has been one of the most painful things I have done for a long time. I have been running regularly since Christmas and with the help of my physio I am confident I will be lining up on the start line. How long it will take me to get to the finish line is a complete unknown but I'm sure I will be there even if I have to hop as I did at the end of a recent long run. Please dig deep and sponsor me online. I can assure you this is the only time I will be doing a marathon and I won't be bothering you again.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: the MS Society will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. The nice people from Justgiving do make a small charge, as do their bankers, but I am told by the MS Society that they much prefer you to give this way as not only does it save them a lot of administration but you are also likely to give more!
So please sponsor me now!
Many thanks for your support.
