We at the John Smith's Stadium are pledging our support to our charity partner Simon on the Street by sleeping out rough at the South Stand of the Stadium to help raise money for rough sleepers.
Myself, Jaine and Rachael will all be spending a night out on the cold concrete to help raise money for this wonderful cause and to better understand the daily struggles faced by those who are at risk of / currently sleep rough in West Yorkshire.
We know the night will be uncomfortable and knowing the British weather it will rain, but we know that at the end of it we all have a warm bed and shower to go home to unlike so many of those who sleep rough in the UK.
Simon on the Streets supports around 100 service users across the region. Not all are currently rough sleeping, but may be at risk or have already had their lives changed by this amazing charity. It costs the charity little over £2,000 per year to support one rough sleeper. 98p in every £1* of the charity's income is spent on it's charitable activity, directly going towards supporting its service users.
Simon On The Streets provides emotional and practical support for people with complex needs who cannot or will not access other services. Within that group it focuses on people who are homeless and rootless, especially those with issues related to rough sleeping.
