Story

Update

Sunday 18th September

Well after many days of rain and wind, John O'Groats was reached today in the late afternoon.  I'm obviously quite sad that I crashed out on the way and was unable to finish, but also glad that Paul finished it under such difficult circumstances (the weather was really against us), because it was something he really wanted to do.

I think we have the record for punctures ... around eight I think, mostly on one back wheel!  Nine out of ten for my forward somersault with triple salco over the handlebars (thank you for the kind motorist that stopped to offer band aid and mechanical help).  Excellent quick thinking by all when Paul locked his bike to railings in Chester and then couldnt find the key.

Thank you to all of you that have supported the charity.  It has been very generous of you and we appreciated it greatly.

Thanks to Anne in Shrewsbury & Nicky & Dorian in Burnham on Sea for putting us up on several nights and feeding us, Dawn for booking a lot of accomodation for us and decorating their living room whilst we were away, and to the Thistle Inn near Castle Douglas, The Mainsfield B&B in Giggleswick & the Heston B&B in Ayr for making donations to the cause.

This is the story of two lifetime friends, Paul Orris and Jon Jones,  who decided to take the challenge of cycling from Lands End to John O'Groats in 14 days on September 2nd 2011.

Both of us were relatively inexperienced, but we have been in training all year.  It's been very tough for sure, but we are really looking forward to the challenge. We are both in our late 50's

At the moment the trip will not be supported by car, but we do have the option of a support vehicle for the second week and various people have offered help along the way.

We chose Care for Casualties as our charity because it is so important that we support the servicemen and women who are injured in the line of duty. Please help us to help them, by making a donation.

About the charity

The Trust supports The Rifles Benevolent Trust (Charity No: 1119071) which includes the “Care for Casualties” (C4C) appeal,; Always a Rifleman Program and the Grocery Voucher scheme with Tesco. The funds support all Riflemen serving or veterans with the AARP meeting the mental health/PTSD needs.
