UPDATE!!!!!
The Homeless World Cup starts in 4 days and would love to have those final donations and contributions before the event or during follow and see the amazing stories and players that make significant changes because of football.
We have now completed our Tour , we met some amazing people doing some amazing work in projects up and down the country and hope we inspired them to use football as a tool to engage homeless people. If your reading this, we hope it inspires you to donate, every penny helps! We will try and update here with new photos and stories.
New debut teams announced for this years Homeless World Cup !!!
By taking part in this challenge – not only are you raising money to help with your costs of getting there but MOST IMPORTANTLY you are raising money to help Homeless Teams take part and change their lives through football. Every year the Homeless World Cup provides a team bursary fund which any selected Homeless Team can apply for to pay for their costs of getting to the Homeless World Cup. This year part of that fund will be raised via the Volunteer Rio Challenge and I am delighted to let you know that the teams getting to go because of this challenge are:
Cambodia, Cameroon, Ghana, India, Kenya, Malawi, Namibia, Nigeria, Russia, Uganda, Zambia, and taking part for the first time ever, Haiti and Palestine.
The Road to Rio 2010: Join us and the Homeless World Cup in a City near you!!!!
The walk of over 100 miles takes 8 days, visits local community projects working with homeless people in Luton, Leicester, Nottingham, Manchester, Liverpool and Newcastle, with a grand finale and presentation at the Homeless World Cup Foundation Headquarters in Edinburgh.
There are one billion people homeless in our world today (United Nations) and through the power of football the Homeless World Cup has changed the lives of thousands of marginalised and excluded individuals all over the world.
In September 2010 the Homeless World Cup will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and approximately 60 nations will be represented at the tournament. Players from every continent have engaged with outreach projects and community centres to train and work hard to make the final squad selection for the honour of representing their country at the largest street soccer tournament in the world.
But their hard work could be in vain if we fail to raise enough money to get them to Rio – it’s a heartbreak not worth contemplating so join us in our efforts and make sure you share this amazing experience with us and get the players to the Homeless World Cup this year!
