Thanks for taking the time to visit my page!
I did it! What a marvellous experience! Thank you to my lovely wife, Karyn, Michelle and Brian for coming along for moral support and camera expertise!!! I am also delighted to say that I have overtaken my £500 target - a HUGE thank you to all who contributed :o)
There is still time for those who have not had a chance until now so please continue to donate as it will still reach the Pebble Trust automatically!
As many of you know, my father battled Advanced Kidney Cancer for many years before he passed away in October 2008. During this time, he spent some time in the Beatson Oncology Centre at Glasgow Gartnavel Hospital, where he left and got to see and hold my daughter, Rachel.
When he went in with drug-induced pneumonia, we did not think he would have come out. With the expert care provided in the Beatson, however, he was back on his feet in a fortnight!
We are now trying to raise money for the Beatson Pebble Appeal to raise funds for a new Beatson Translational Research Centre, which is to be based in the University's Garscube Estate. This centre will allow basic cancer research to be converted into real improvements in treatments for patients. One could almost call it a centre to turn dreams into a reality in the fight against cancer.
My father, like so many other cancer patients, was on a multitude of drugs - some of which were/are not available to all because of cost and/or a lack of research data - it is in places like this new Translational Centre that we can move a step closer to getting the support needed to bring these powerful drugs onto the general marketplace to help in overcoming cancer.
For this reason, I am doing a free fall abseil* down the Falkirk Wheel on Saturday 24th October.
* This means that I will be abseiling through the air and not against a wall!
I hope that you can give something to help me raise funds for the Beatson Pebble Appeal. Any amount is gratefully received. Thank you so much to all of you who have already contributed! :o)
