Hello!!!! Please note that all money raised will go directly to my chosen charity 'Task Brasil' and not subsidise any costs I incur personally such as my flight, insurance, sun tan lotion etc........ And so.... I'd like to thank you for visiting my fundraising page! Now that you're here I'd like to take this opportunity to give you a brief explanation as to why I have chosen to raise money for Task Brasil, my chosen charity. I have spent a fair amount of time in Brazil and in particular Rio De Janeiro over the past couple of years. Rio is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, with its vibrant culture, golden beaches and party atmosphere but unfortunately it does have its social problems and none more so than for the young street children & teenagers of the city. After seeing first hand, the problematic lives these young people have to experience, I really want to do my little bit to try and help. I thought that one of the best ways to do my little bit was to fundraise for a charity that specialises in helping the street children ofRio and that's where I came across Task Brasil (www.taskbrasil.org.uk). They have a number of great projects in place that have successfully helped in improving young people's lives which is invaluable. I then had to decide on a way to fundraise.........and that's why on June 29th I succeeded in completing the 26.2 mile Rio Marathon.......it was extemely tough but so rewarding at the same time. I had completed a gruelling 3 month training programme to prepare for this which was very intense considering you would normally train a lot longer than this to compete in a marathon. I was feeling really healthy and confident throughout the training but unfortunately, just 5 days before the marathon, I was hit by a nasty bout of food poisoning which really zapped my energy and dented my confidence a little. However I didn't let this affect me too much and I still went ahead with the race. It was a 30 degree scorcher which I wasn't hoping for and it did make it that bit tougher but I ended up crossing the finish line in 4 hrs 2 mins 34 secs just over my 4 hr target time.... I have already had a number of extremely generous donations but now I have completed the Marathon I am still looking for contributions to go towards the projects of Task Brasil. That’s not all though! From now until December I am also volunteering for Task Brasil, directly helping the children I am fundraising for......so I will be able to let you know exactly how your donations have been spent........... .......and so if you could help me in my goal of raising money for this extremely worthwhile cause then I would be very grateful and more importantly, so will the children who will directly benefit from your donations Just so you know how beneficial your donations will be I have gathered the following information from my charity…….. To feed a child it costs £15 a month A part-time nurse costs £5 a month per child A computer course for a teenager costs £25 A monthly supply of medicine costs £5 per child A child-carer costs £28 a month per child A monthly supply of cleaning material costs £3 per child A monthly supply of hygiene products for the children costs £20 A monthly supply of special diet for Ian who is allergic to dairy products costs JONATHAN STUART’S SERVICES FOR 6 MONTHS = NO COST TO TASK BRASIL Every little helps and any donation will be hugely appreciated.
