The Back-Up Trust is a national charity that supports people; young or old with spinal cord injury. Back-Up encourages self-confidence, independence and motivation following a traumatic life changing incident resulting in spinal cord injury. We also support friends, families and colleagues to encourage integration and promote disability awareness and collaboration.

My story

HOORAY!!! Congratulations to everyone we completed the challenge and conquered Snowdon in horrendous weather conditions which included gales, torrential rain and hailstones in July :-)

In 2007 I suffered a spinal cord injury during surgery to remove a tumor and was left paralysed and wheelchair dependent.

While in hospital I was introduced to the Back-Up Trust, they were there initially as volunteers to teach wheelchair skills to people who had recently suffered life changing injuries. I also found out that they ran rehabilitation courses not only for injured individuals but also for the family and friends of seriously injured people who may have difficulty coming to terms with life following an injury.

I just wanted to tell you a little about how the money we raise will help a paralysed person.

£25 will enable and individual to go on a wheelchair skills session, where they will learn valuable skills essential for leading an independent life.

£120 would pay for six mentoring sessions.

£500 will enable a paralysed individual to go on a water skiing course

£1000 will pay for one spinally injured person to go on a multi activity summer course where the aim is to build confidence, motivation and independence.

£1800 will pay for a spinally injured person to go on a ski course.

So you can see what a difference the money we are hoping to raise can make to the lives of so many.
