We pioneer life-saving cancer research to help us beat cancer

Story

Many of us at JSPC have been affected by cancer either directly or indirectly and as a result of this we have decided to organise an event to raise awareness and money for Cancer Research UK.

Philip Angell one of our technicians is taking part, here is his story:

When I was six years old my Mum was diagnosed with breast cancer. As a child I didn't understand what cancer was and when I was told my mum was going to a doctor I assumed that they would "make it better". Thankfully my Mum beat her illness and 20 years on is cancer free. More recently my fiancée's mum was diagnosed with breast cancer and is currently on her way to recovery. Without the work that charities like Cancer Research UK have done both of these loved women might not have been so lucky. My Grandma is currently battling with terminal cancer. I want to raise awareness and money for this disease, to help develop new ways to combat it, so that in the future people like my Grandma can be told that they will be okay.

As an adult I now know that a doctor can't always "make it better" because they don't have the right tools to do so. I believe that if we continue to raise money for this cause; we can change that.

Carina Brown our Office Administrator is taking part, here is her story:

Cancer is something that will affect 2 out of 3 people and I've had friends and family suffer from cancer and we need to find a cure and fast! I'm mainly doing this in memory of my Grandad who sadly died of prostate cancer 15 years ago. Back then prostate cancer was near impossible to cure but with the help of cancer research and other related charities the survival rate has increased dramatically. I wish he was here now and I hope the money we raise will help the aid to beat this disgusting disease and give people more precious time with their loved ones that I unfortunately didn't get.

Mike Bush one of our Technicians is taking part, here is his story:

I am running in memory of John Wade, a close family friend who sadly lost his battle with cancer. John was like an uncle to me, he always managed to put a smile on my face with his jokes and stories of days gone by with my dad, he was also very handy with a pack of cards but was always nice enough to let me win........sometimes.

Tony Dorey one of our Senior Technicians is taking part, here is his story:

I don't believe in sport. I don't do anything energetic. In fact running should be reserved for running away from dinosaurs. That said, I lost my mother to cancer and it is one of the many cruel ways life can be taken from someone. It was terrible to watch happen and frightening for my mum to endure in her final days. I'm going to run the whole 10k with no stops. I'll do the hard part but this will only work with your kind donation to the whole event.

Shelley Stoner The Company Secretary is taking part, here is her story:

Anyone who knows me will know I hate exercise, I am not fit at all but after seeing close friends and family affected by Cancer over the past few years I want to contribute so I am taking part in this 10K challenge, I may not be able to run it all with the guys but I will set myself the challenge of completing it. Training is underway and I hope some of you can spare a few pennies to support the challenge and raise money for Cancer Research, thank you x
